Home Point is Herefordshire’s Choice‐Based Lettings Agency; a partnership between Herefordshire Council and the county’s largest Housing Associations covering over 97% of the affordable housing stock in Herefordshire.
The background to Home Point originates in the Green Paper ‘Quality & Choice – A Decent Home For All’. Published in the spring of 2000 it outlined the government’s vision for the future of Social Housing. To promote and pilot Choice‐Based Lettings a fund of £13 million was shared amongst 27 pilot bids and 3 existing schemes. Home Point was one of the successful bids for a set up grant. Future funding was to be met by the Home Point Partnership.
An ambitious project plan was agreed and all of the Partner’s Waiting Lists merged into one to form ‘Herefordshire’s Common Housing Register’. Home Point went live in October 2002 and a month later the last of the Council’s housing stock was transferred to the newly formed Herefordshire Housing Ltd.
